Students, staff and community members in Tatamagouche are one step closer to having a new facility built to deliver public school education for grades primary to twelve. As the Minister of Education and the MLA for Colchester North, I was pleased to announce this facility in November of 2013 as part of the government’s Capital plan and on August 12, 2014 I announced that the site had been chosen and approved for this facility. The Premier, SAC Chair Ron Creighton and North Colchester High School principal, Tom Thomson visited the site recently.

The new P-12 school will replace Tatamagouche Elementary and North Colchester High schools and will be built on property of the existing high school. With the announcement of the site a School Steering Team (SST) will be established to provide input into the project management and design team throughout the next phases of the project. The SST acts as an information source for the communities they represent, in order to provide an overall connection with the process.

SST membership includes the following representation:

  • Department of Education, Department of Transportation & Infrastructure Renewal & School Boards

  • Board operations staff

  • School principals, Tom Thomson & Brian Holmes

  • School staff members

  • SAC

  • Community members

  • Student representatives

The SST is a key advisory resource during the course of the project. It will be most active during the Conceptual and Design Development phases where prioritization of items is required. During construction the project’s design and construction management team (DoE, TIR & board) will report back to the SST on a regular basis regarding the progress of the project’s implementation.
